Acacia koa is a species of flowering tree in the family Fabaceae. It is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, where it is the second most common tree. The highest populations are on Hawaiʻi, Maui and Oʻahu. Its name in the Hawaiian language, koa, also means brave, bold, fearless, or warrior.
Koa war clubs: Polynesian clubs were carved out of Koa wood differing in style. Some clubs were inlaid with shell or bone for decoration. In some cases like the Hawaiian Lei o Mano or the shark tooth club, bone, rock, shell or shark teeth were used in place of metal for the purpose of tearing or piercing flesh. Each club has a specific use and targets a specific part of the body.
