Hafa Adai, Talofa and Alohaaa!!! Thanks for coming by and checking out my Polynesian and Micronesian Gift Shop!!
How cool of a gift would this be? Or even a piece for your own personal collection. Pair it up with one of the hundreds of other low priced/high quality items I have listed! This is one of my most popular items at festivals with people of all ages! The shark tooth necklace is the classic surfer, beach accessory that will never go out of style.
This listing is for a Mako or Fossilized Moroccan shark tooth necklace. Each necklace style is 18” and made with authentic coconut beads and REAL shark teeth- in addition, the necklaces are fastened with silver clasps. When using all natural materials as in these necklaces there will inevitably be slight differences between each piece. Please, send me a dm if you want to see an exact image of the one you’ll be purchasing.
Otodus, Moroccan Shark, is an extinct mackerel shark which lived during the Paleocene and Eocene epochs, approximately 60 to 45 million years ago. ... Though large (1.5 Inch+), high quality fossil shark teeth are still uncommon finds.
The Mako Shark, Isurus (meaning "equal tail") is also part of the mackerel sharks in the family Lamnidae, commonly known as the mako sharks. They are largely a pelagic, fast predatory fish capable of swimming at speeds up to 50 km/h!
Based on their characteristics and on myths and legends, sharks (and therefore the shark teeth motifs used to represent them) are symbolic of strength, guile, protection and guidance. Triangles are an ubiquitous element in Polynesian art and the simplest, most common way to represent shark teeth.
Mahalo!
