Hafa Adai, Aloha and Talofaaaa!!
Thank you so much for coming in and checking out our little Polynesian/Micronesian Small Business! We hope you find the perfect piece of Pasefika for you!
This listing is for this exact beautiful 6-8” hand carved hibiscus hammerhead shark. It is displayed on a leech wood (parasitic wood) base. There will be several listings for this style of art. Because each item is so different, due to natural materials, we placed them as individual listings. Do you have a shark lover in your life??
Parasite wood, also known as leech wood, is a dense, hard growth from parasitic plants (like mistletoe) that embed into host trees, especially Chinaberry or Jempinis trees, feeding on their sap, and remains durable and usable for carving even after the host tree dies, often forming unique "wood roses" or mushroom-like shapes that artisans transform into decorative art.
Based on their characteristics and on myths and legends, SHARKS are symbolic of strength, guile, protection and guidance.
