This necklace is 18” in length and adorned with a .925 silver plated twist clasp. These are authentically handcrafted Litub beads and therefor each will have a unique imperfect look as pictured. Perfect summer boho piece.
The Litub Shell (Lima Lama Vulgaris) come from a type of mollusk. These clams are filter feeders and live on rocky bottoms and coral, usually in the sea grass prairies of the Posidonia Oceanica. This is a beachcombing shell often broke down and made into beads for Polynesian Jewelry.
The turtle or honu is a very important creature throughout all Polynesian cultures and has been associated with several meanings. The sea turtle symbolize health, fertility, longevity in life, foundation, peace and rest.
I’a Sa is the samoan name for a sea turtle. In Samoan folklore, it is said that if a fisherman is lost at sea and a sea turtle appears the sea turtle will help the fishermen find his way back to shore.
Whales are a frequent subject in Polynesian lore too, where they appear as protectors and guides. The two strongest ones swim at the head of the group to protect the others, and the look of the two paired whales is told to have inspired the structure of Polynesian double-hulled seafaring canoes.
